Camp NaNoWriMo: Day 11

It’s day eleven and progress is slow going still.  By day seven, I knew I wasn’t going to reach my word count goal.  That’s when I realized something important–word count goals just don’t work for me.  Instead of following the advice of the eight gazillion books and blog posts on writing that I’ve read over the years, I’ve decided to try things my way.  I’m going to shoot for hours spent writing rather than number of words written.  My new goal is 50 hours of writing.  As of this writing, I’ve accomplished just under eight hours, so I’m still behind.  Over the weekend I hope to play a little catch up by putting in as many hours as possible. Wish me luck.

  1. I kind of cheated and dropped my goal the day camp started. 30000 is way more manageable for me at 1000 words a day, approx. Still, I have to make myself do it early in the day, which is not my natural instinct, or I don’t get it done. No idea if that word count will get me to the end of the first draft but it’s helping me develop a more regular writing routine which was my ultimate goal. I hope switching to hours has helped you feel more positive about your progress and helped the words flow. 💕

    1. My goal is to get back to writing regularly, too. Changing to hours has helped me because I can’t always write every day. If I use a word count goal, I beat myself up if I don’t meet the count that I’ve set for the day. Switching to hours takes some of that pressure off.

      Good luck with your progress!
